The City of Marina has selected a new city manager nearly a year after the city sacked the old one.
Layne Long, previously city manager of Draper, Utah, was chosen from 75 applicants, according to a statement from the city.
Long holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations and a master’s degree in public administration from Brigham Young University.
The new city manager’s predecessor Tony Altfeld was fired in March 2012. Officials said the matter was the culmination of unsuccessful negotiations over Altfeld's contract. The city wanted to drop Altfeld's salary by $40,000 to $180,000 per year, and cut his severance pay to four months instead of 12, according to Weekly files.
Long's contract will formally approved at the city’s next council meeting April 2.
