Local Artists And Gallery Owners Speak Out

Last year, attorney Robert Turkell says he walked through "all 108" art galleries in Carmel to see who was selling unauthorized artwork of the Lone Cypress. "I couldn't find a tree anywhere," he claims. "I'd go in and say my wife wants a picture of the Lone Cypress. They'd say, 'we don't even breathe that word around here.'"

Letters

I am an animal lover. I would love nothing more than to have 10 dogs and 10 cats and 100 birds all over my house living in harmony. But we all know that is not very realistic. I have heard of a law that states that a person cannot own more than four of one certain house pet. I doubt it refers to fish and birds, but dogs and cats are definitely affected. I feel that is why we have so many abandoned animals in the SPCA. More people would adopt more animals if they knew the police would not be at their house at two in the morning because a neighbor complained there were five dogs in the backyard. People complain about the pettiest things. I have a theory that the reason the "four pet" law was passed was due to a nosy neighbor. Isn't that how most laws come in to play? Thank you for taking the time to listen to a concerned reader's thoughts. Your "Give 'Em Shelter" article (Jan. 7) was wonderful.
