I am amazed at some of the people who are in opposition to the Coastal Protection Initiative (Measure B). They must be reading the expensive ad campaign done against the initiative. The ads are misleading and confusing. Of course, that's the opposition's strategy: They think if they can confuse the voters, the voters will vote 'no.'

Monterey artist/activist Ed Leeper is up to his old tricks again. This time, he's created a work called "Piss on Helms," dedicated to Sen. Jesse "no bucks for art" Helms. Based on Andres Serrano's "Piss Christ," a controversial photo of a crucifix floating in urine, which Helms held up as an example of why government funding of the arts should stop, Leeper's work features a photograph of Helms floating in a foot-tall, urine-filled canning jar. "I had to dilute it," Leeper says. "It was too thick. You couldn't see through it."
