Jill Madden, assistant aquarist at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, sits on a rock in the late afternoon sun in the aquarium's great tidal pool. Diving around in a dance of tethered freedom, a young California sea otter named Taylor, raises his head to check in with Jill, who, as far as Taylor is concerned, is his mother.
