Great Expectations

Lust is a very strong emotion--and so is yearning. Perhaps all of us have yearned for someone romantically, or else in a purely primal sense. Here are some folks sharing their intimate feelings about the objects of their unrequited desire.

Kit Nicholas

Student, Monterey

Have you ever wanted someone who didn''t give a damn about you? Does a stripper count?

Anyone lust after you whom you didn''t like? Yep, Carly from the 7th grade. She used to dedicate songs to me; I just didn''t want anything to do with her.

Can you lust and love separately? You can have one without the other, sure. I strive for both, I think.

Ian Walker

Songwriter, Seaside

Have you ever chased after someone? Yes, a girl I dated. We broke up and I still really wanted her. After a long time I finally realized I wasn''t going to get her.

Did you try poetry? Boy, did I, and that didn''t work. I''m pretty good at it, too.

Do you think lust is related to love? Lust is saying, "I just want to have sex with that person." Love, on the other hand, is where you want that person for who they are. You don''t need both.

Christine Cowgill

Nurse, Monterey

Have you ever lusted after anyone...? Lusted for someone who didn''t give a damn about me? Of course.

Can you have love without lust? Of course. You can lust without love.

Has anyone ever lusted after you? No, I don''t think so.
