Cut It Out!

The first thing you need to know about MoCo's 2001-2002 subscription seasons.

classicalTo facilitate your personal concert plans, Fall 2001-Spring 2002, why not join us on a walk through the Weekly''s annual Calendar of Seasons, a guide to the dates, artists and events of the region''s primary classical presenters.

But first, the news. Due to the renovation of Sunset Center, concert patrons will find themselves scattered to other Carmel venues, as well as locations in Monterey, Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach. Only one direct conflict appears so far: Both the Mozart Society and Chamber Music Monterey Bay have scheduled events on Jan. 25 in Carmel.

If your taste favors piano concertos, you''ll have to go to Santa Cruz County to find any. The Carmel Bach Festival doesn''t offer them, and, in the coming fall/winter/spring season, neither will the Monterey Symphony. If that latter fact leaves piano concerto lovers in the lurch, it saves the symphony the extra cost to manually move its piano onto the subterranean stage at King Hall.

And finally, after 65 venerable years, the Salinas Concert Association has decided to call it quits. Its last program, the Wolford/Rosenblem saxophone and piano duo, will be presented at Hartnell College''s Main Stage on Sunday night. The decision to pull the plug was "not taken lightly," explains board president Carl Christensen. "After many years of declining ticket sales, the board just feels that there is not enough interest in the community."

But let''s get on with the shows.
