Ironically, some of the album's best moments are when Strummer and the boys venture outside of the rock realm. With its backing vocalists and horn section, "Get Down Moses" sounds like vintage roots reggae. On "Midnight Jam," samples of Strummer's voice float above an ethereal instrumental--he passed away before recording the song's vocals.

It's not every Appalachian ditty you can make out to. Joel Harrison, armed with a mercury slick guitar sound and a gifted jazz ensemble, digs into country standards and old hill tunes, showing the seemingly endless malleability of folk forms. There's something undeniably romantic in these cuts, especially on his reworking of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land." Harrison's arrangements show a knack for fluttered pulses and spiced exoticism. A few stretches get a wee too languid, but there's always solos to savor and his insinuating work on fretless, electric and steel guitars. Norah Jones sings on two numbers with her brushed golden tones. Tony Cedras' accordion pushes into light NYC tango. Only "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" fails to fit this band or vice versa. A fascinating album where tradition meets innovation in a low, unrushed conversation.

We thought it would be cool to have a nice, docile cow just walking around the festival, hanging out with the beer-tasters. Think of how cool it would be to be digging the fresh air, the tunes, the great beer and food and then see a full-sized cow chewing her cud. Maybe we could paint squares on the ground and have a charity raffle selling the squares to see where her chips drop. The winner could receive a year''s supply of free milk or something (steak dinner?).
