Cmdr. Kelly McMillin, Salinas' community safety director, will be appointed to the city's new deputy chief position, Police Chief Louis Fetherolf said today. McMillin will oversee administration and special operations, Fetherolf said.
As one of his first reorganizations as police chief, Fetherolf requested to add a third deputy chief because Deputy Chief Manuel Perrien is in charge of two divisions: administration and investigations.
Two council members opposed the promotion partly because it could jeopardize the success of Measure K, a 1-cent sales tax increase on the Nov. 3 ballot.
