California Senator Barbara Boxer has introduced a bill to give Pinnacles National Monument a promotion—to national park status. It's a move that Boxer says will draw more tourists to its 26,000 acres of volcanic rock formations, wildlands, and wildlife habitat. The area is home to the California condor.
Boxer's bill would also give Pinnacles a new name—Hain Wilderness for Schuyler Hain, the conservationist who helped make it a national monument.
The legislation is a companion to a House bill introduced by Congressman Sam Farr (D-Carmel).
