Something in the Water

Monterey blogger dives into the oily Gulf.

Weekly contributor and biodiesel-fueled traveler Kelley Calvert is on the road again - and this time, she's scoping America's southeast coast, blogging on the ongoing Gulf oil disaster.

In the past week she's seen Alabama beach swimmers, despite reports of "oil as thick as peanut butter" in the water; sludge at an Exxon-sponsored beach inĀ  Baytown, Texas; roadside protest signs in "Grand Oil"; and wildlife rescue workers scrubbing down oiled pelicans with Dawn soap.
