Company renews Parker Flats horse park proposal.

The Monterey County Board of Supervisors tomorrow is slated to enter into an exclusive negotiating rights agreement with Monterey Downs, a Southern California-based company that wants to develop a 450-acre horse training facility with a 6,500-seat arena in the Parker Flats area of former Fort Ord.

The county previously was in talks with nonprofit group Monterey Horse Park about developing an equestrian facility, but the negotiating agreement lapsed in February 2009, according to a county staff report.

The new proposal would include housing, a commercial center and hotel. Once the board approves the agreement, the developer will prepare a detailed plan and market study. The item is on the supervisors' consent agenda.
