The proponents of adding the name Obama Way to Seaside's Broadway Avenue have raised half the money they need to pay for the signs, according to a May 15 press release.
In mid-March, the City Council approved adding commemorative Obama Way signs to Broadway Avenue signage, on the condition that the Obama Way Committee - the citizen group that spearheaded the effort - pay the $10,400 installation fee.
A contribution of $250 will pay for minor intersection signage, and $600 covers a major intersection. Donors of $100 or more will receive an "Obama Way" T-shirt, and those who pay for an entire street sign will be thanked with a full page in the Obama Way dedication booklet.
Donations have already reaced the halfway point of $5,200, according to Obama Way Committee Chairman Morris McDaniel. Donations can be mailed to: Obama Way Benefit Fund, P.O. Box 55, Seaside, CA 93955.
