Bullets flew on the 1500 block of Seaside's Yosemite Street on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 10. When police arrived around 9:20pm, they found 26-year-old Dwayne Choates, Jr., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a Seaside Police Department press release.

Choates, the nephew of formal Seaside City Councilman Darryl Choates, was pronounced dead at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

It's unclear whether the shooting was gang related, but SSPD Cmdr. Chris Veloz says police believe there were several witnesses they hope will come forward. "What happens in Seaside is similar to Salinas: Things happen and nobody wants to talk, nobody wants to get involved," he says.
