Tough Week

Salinas suffered 3 murders in one week.

Three men between the ages of 15 and 20 were gunned down in three separate incidents between Tuesday and Friday in Salinas last week. A fourth gunshot victim is receiving medical care at a Bay Area hospital.

"Our detectives are looking into whether they are related or not, at this point it is unclear whether they are or not," says police department spokesman Lalo Villegas.

Police are investigating the murders as gang related.

Ulises Jacobo, 17, was shot on the 1200 block of Salinas' Del Monte Avenue on Tuesday morning. Jose Daniel Cisneros, 15, was shot near the rear of Alisal High School on Friday morning and died after undergoing emergency surgery. Jaime Esteban Guerrero, 20, was shot on the 100 block of Key Street on Friday evening. He was from Seaside.

Last week's crimes brought Salinas' murder toll up to 15 for the year. In 2009, the city's homicide total was 29.
