The grand daddy’s grand daddy is only a few weeks away: The 30th anniversary of one of the largest triathlons to ever lace up sneakers happens May 4-6 at Lake San Antonio. It’s 7,000-competitor, 30,000-fans massive despite the fact that it started as a humble informal little thing and its parent company headquarters remains a granny unit in Pacific Grove. But that’s fitting, because something small—a bit of biking or running—is about all it takes to head down a road that ends at the three-day, live music-soaked Burning Man of Fitness. “I don’t know how many people I’ve seen come out, volunteer or watch, and think ‘I can do that,’” says founder Terry Davis. “It’s can do.”
