Despite the best efforts of the American Chemistry Council, the state Supreme Court green-lit city plastic bag bans last July. The city of Monterey followed in November, and now Pacific Grove and Carmel-by-the-Sea are considering the same. The trend reminds us of the bans on take-out Styrofoam, which hit resistance at first but now spans almost all of the county. Here’s hoping otters, sea turtles and albatross keep gracing this planet for millennia to come while disposable plastic goes extinct.
