Armed with his signature beret and soul patch, Cheeky Spanks guitarist John Sherry—also known as “Sir John” and “Mr. Clean”—quietly blows minds every Thursday and Saturday afternoon at the C Restaurant. The talent of the longtime songwriter, composer and arranger has been recognized beyond Monterey County: Twice, Sherry was a finalist in VH-1’s Song of the Year International Songwriting Contest and he’s composed several scores for live theater including Lily Tomlin’s one-woman Broadway show, Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe. From Beatles covers and gypsy jazz to classical music and blues, the ease and fluidity of Sherry’s guitar chops evokes a warm knife slicing through a stick of butter.
