Myles Lerner looks at Derric Oliver who reads his statements during Lerner's sentencing in February. Oliver's girlfriend, Rachael Short was a passenger in the car Lerner was driving when he crashed near Henry Miller Memorial Library in Big Sur on Halloween night in 2010. After seeing paramedics attending to Short—who was paralyzed in the accident, Lerner fled the scene. It was several days before he turned himself in. Judge Adrienne Grover sentenced Lerner to four years probation, which includes 180 days jail time.
