A Street Paper for the homeless and marginalized of Salinas and beyond...

Voices of the Street

“A Street Paper for the homeless and marginalized population of Monterey County.” “Voices of the Street” is in the initial organizing phase of development and we are looking for people to work with us to help create this Newspaper. Who are we? We are a small group of volunteers working out of the Chinatown Community Learning Center.

“Voices of the Street” is now accepting submissions for the first issue. We are accepting visual art work, poetry, prose, editorials, journalism, short stories, or other written or visual art. Please join our cause. We will provide training and learning opportunities for writers, poets, designers, artist, agitators and collaborators of all stripes. Meetings are every Thursday at 11:00 am in the Chinatown Community Learning Center at 22 Soledad St. next to Dorothy’s Place. Ask for Robert, Lewis, Peter, or Jason.

The Mission of “Voices of the Street”: 1. To provide an empowering and liberating opportunity for the homeless and marginalized population of Monterey County by creating a venue for their voices, opinions, and issues to be heard. 2. To provide an opportunity to build useful life skills including computer literacy, writing, graphic design, and community building through participation in the development and production of the newspaper. 3. To provide an opportunity for the homeless population of Monterey County to earn an income by selling the newspaper. 4. To be a forum for community dialogue about the issues of homelessness and poverty in Monterey County

Meeting every Thursday at Chinatown Community Learning Center 11 Am 22 Soledad Street Salinas Ca. 1 831.770.1929
