After a heated online voting race between Galveston Tree Conservancy and the Spokane Reforesting Group, among others, SpectorDance came out on top scoring a $20,000 grant from Tom's of Maine thanks to a flurry of voters clicking them across the finish line when they needed it most.

The "50 States For Good" national initiative used online voting to narrow down a huge field of national organizations that contributed something positive to their community, the environment or their fellow man. The top six split $150,000.

The photos and descriptions of Ocean have been flying around for the last few months now, and the public will get a chance to see the real thing starting Friday, Nov. 11 at 8pm. The dance troupe’s unique and inspiring Ocean was choreographed by Fran Spector Atkins in collaboration with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute to both celebrate the Monterey Bay and raise awareness of threats to the world’s oceans. A piece written by Jessica Lyons in May sheds a more flattering and in-depth light on the program.
