As a self proclaimed Foodie and devoted Yelper, I decided it was time to stack up the cities in the Monterey County Area and see who rains supreme in each respective food category based off my past experiences.
The Competitors are: Monterey, Seaside, Pacific Grove, and Carmel...sorry Marina!
First Up, Thai Food
-Contenders- Monterey-Siamese Bay Restaurant Seaside-Baan Thai Pacific Grove-Thai Bistro II Carmel-none
Winner: Baan Thai Runner Up: Thai Bistro II Possible Rival: Lemon Grass Restaurant
Reason: Baan Thai offers a light hearted atmosphere while delivering authentic and flavorful dishes without putting a dent in the wallet.
Next Up, Breakfast/Lunch
-Contenders- Monterey-Monterey Cafe Seaside-Breakfast Club Pacific Grove-Red House Cafe Carmel-Katy's Place
Winner: Red House Cafe Runner Up: Katy's Place Possible Rival: Carmel Belle
Reason: Red House Cafe has mastered the art of elevating simple ingredients to profound culinary bliss all while maintaining a reasonable price.
Next Up, Greek/Mediterranean
-Contenders- Monterey-Epsilon Seaside-none Pacific Grove-Petra Carmel-Dametra
Winner: Demetra Runner Up: Petra Possible Rival: Portabella
Reason: A quaint restaurant nestled in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea that delivers on bold traditional flavors without sacrificing quality or quantity.
Next Up: Mexican
-Contenders- Monterey-Pico de Gallo Seaside-Mi Tierra Pacific Grove-Peppers Mexicali Cafe Carmel-Baja Cantina
Winner: Pico de Gallo Runner Up: Mi Tierra Possible Rival: Marisco's Puerto Nuevo
Reason: Truly your typical mom and pop shop that hits it out of the park on flavor, quantity and most importantly quality.
As it stands, all the cities are tied but who knows what may happen in the next two rounds.
Next time, I will be looking at the most heated debates within the Best French, Italian, Seafood, and Burger/Sandwich Shop in Monterey County.
Side-note: Possible Rival are places I have yet to try but have great things about
The Haute Enchilada
Moss Landing
