Much of the talk in my circles involving Big Sur and Highway 1 features on "snow" and "Chanterelle Cook-Off," hitting on the upcoming weather and sold-out festival, respectively.
Just today, the visionary named Dre and the prodigy called Em employed Big Sur and Highway 1 on their way to a hit. It was just after a "Big Sur" handmade veggie pattie at Hula's (and yellow curry Hawaiian butterfish) that Stuart Thornton told me about the just dropped video.
Here's what he sent me later, noting South Coast spots that casual folks might not recognize, like Brazil Ranch:
"County residents will dig the first two minutes of the video, which features Dre reminiscing about his career while hanging out in front of Big Sur’s McWay Waterfall," he writes. "Then, a distracted Dre jumps into a sports car, speeds over Bixby Bridge and flips his vehicle on Highway 1 for no apparent reason. The rest of the video, which comes on like a cross between a Frankenstein flick and a Rocky movie, finds Dre fighting to recover from the crash."
I would interject that it layers legends like Dory Ford layered philo dough over earthy chanterelle shrooms last year—flavor like Easy E and Tupac, rappers revolutionary in ways that hip hop has yet to fully realize.
Here it be. Dig in.
