Remembering Amy Winehouse

On Saturday, July 23, singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her Camden, London home. Though the 27-year-old's death was inevitable—she partied harder than Keith Richards, Janis Joplin and John Belushi combined—the news still saddened me. The musician had one of the best voices I had heard in a long time and she was just getting started. Here's a little list of my favorite Winehouse factoids...not all of them are pretty:

Winehouse performed at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday party concert at London's Hyde Park.

In 2009, she was arrested for reportedly spitting at Pippa Middleton and headbutting a photographer.

Jay-Z credited Winehouse with revitalizing British music: "There's a strong push coming out of London right now, which is great. It's been coming ever since I guess Amy."

Time magazine named "Rehab" the Best Song of 2007.

Before the 2007 MTV Europe Music Awards, Winehouse destroyed her Berlin hotel room by throwing furniture and spaghetti at the walls.

In 2008, Bryan Adams wrote "Flower Grown Wild" for Winehouse to help her overcome her drug habit.

At the age of 14, Winehouse was expelled from Sylvia Young Theater School for piercing her nose.

She grew up in a family of Jewish jazz musicians.
