If you have a bunch of extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, and you'd like to help professional musicians who are battling cancer, then you're in luck. But you'll have to act quickly. A Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Guitar signed by Lou Reed (pictured above) is one of several rad—and high-priced—collectables up for grabs in the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund's "Artists Helping Artists" Auction (proceeds to benefit their Musicians Cancer Fund) ending midday tomorrow.
The other instruments of rock: A signed Fender Sting Precision Bass guitar, Fender Stratocaster created and signed by John Mayer, a 60th Anniversary Fender Telecaster signed by Tom Petty, and the prized jewel: A Gretsch White Falcon guitar painted by famed marine life artist Wyland—valued at $25,000.
Here's a detailed description of the Wyland guitar—which reads almost like a love letter—from the website: The G6136DS White Falcon is truly a beautiful bird, with a single-cutaway hollow body with arched top, oversized bound f holes and gold-sparkle binding (body, fingerboard and headstock). The three-piece maple neck has an ebony fingerboard with feather-engraved mother-of-pearl hump block inlays. Other features include dual DynaSonic™ single-coil pickups, three-position pickup switch, gold plexi pickguard with Falcon motif, gold-plated hardware, gold-plated Grover® Imperial™ tuners, vertical gold-sparkle Gretsch logo headstock inlay, gold-plated Synchro-Sonic™ bridge and Cadillac “G” tailpiece.
Get your bid on HERE. All guitar auctions close within the first 30 minutes after 11am PST tomorrow.
In case you miss out on this one, there are several future rock-centric auctions to bid on including a visit with Duran Duran and front row concert tickets, YES meet-and-greet and concert and a signed and personalized FA-100 Fender, courtesy of Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Gass). Bidding for these three gems ends July 31.
