While CD sales continue to plummet and digital music sales cooling off, the revival of vinyl sees a rise in sales for the fifth straight year. The annual Record Store Day on April 21 is now considered a national holiday, more important than Thanksgiving, by avid vinyl collectors. Its newer infant sister Black Friday Record Store Day—happening in indie record stores across the country Nov. 23—is now definitely overshadowing Turkey Day for LP enthusiasts. The complete list of exclusive Black Friday goodies is now available HERE.
Some nuggets include a Beach Boys *Surfin' Safari 10-inch, several Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band offerings, a trio of White Stripes 7-inches, a reissue of *Nirvana's Insecticide and oldschool rap reissues of the Fat Boys and Biz Markie**.
A piece of advice for first-timers: Get to your favorite local record store early and don't be afraid to be aggressive or you will lose out on all the Record Day exclusives. To find out what stores are participating visit http://www.recordstoreday.com Here in Monterey, there are three choices: Recycled Records, Vinyl Revolution and newbie, Siren Records and CD's.
