After serving California during one of the most tumultuous economic times in U.S. history, Real Estate Commissioner Jeff Davi is heading back to Monterey and a job in the private sector.

Davi has been California’s real estate commissioner for the past seven years following his appointment by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. He says his decision to step down was bittersweet, but his tenure was marked by important milestones, including what he describes as his “fondest accomplishment…was the launch of DRE’s Financial Literacy Program.”

The Financial Literacy Program promoted real estate education for adults by way of community colleges and has plans to establish a high school program in the future.

During Davi’s time as commissioner he saw the real estate licensee population peak—in 2007, 1 of every 50 California adults had a real estate license—and he handed down over 10,000 disciplinary actions.

Former Real Estate Commissioner Jim Antt, Jr. said, “[Davi] served with the highest integrity and he has been an outstanding Real Estate Commissioner. He will certainly be missed.”

There was no word from Gov. Jerry Brown’s office on a possible replacement.
