Delinquent Taxpayers’ Dirty Laundry Aired

Shame, shame the World Wide Web knows these business’ names (and how much they owe in back sales and use taxes).

Eleven additions were made to a state-mandated list of 250 companies with the largest sales and use tax delinquencies exceeding $100,000, including four companies in Monterey County. The internet hosted list has been in effect since January 1, 2007 as a result of AB 1418 and gives companies a month’s notice before being added.

The combined outstanding tax debt of Monterey Information Technologies of Monterey, DBA Ultra Mart and Scott Bradley Nichols of Salinas runs more than $2.6 million, with Dealer Direct Auto Sales in Salinas’ delinquencies totaling over $1.6 million alone.

A reported $5 million has been collected from 35 companies since the outset of the program.
