Monterey Recognizes Local, Green Businesses

The Monterey City Council will have a chance to recognize the stores, restaurants, offices, and city facilities that have been certified Monterey Bay Area green businesses at its Feb. 1 meeting.

More than 20 city buildings including the Monterey Sports Center, the Monterey Conference Center and the Library have passed the region's green business test by replacing harsh janitorial chemicals with environmentally friendly alternatives, using dry clean-up methods, and keeping wastewater out of storm drains, among many other requirements.

Seventeen local businesses have also passed muster, including the Monterey Hostel, Tours Monterey, McGraw Hill, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and McDonald's.
