The Pacific Grove Monarch Grove Sanctuary has one less tenant, as the last remnants of Brokaw Hall are hauled away.
Critics of the demo include preservationist Esther Trosow, who wrote in a July 7 email to city consultant Francis Villablanca: "This unfortunate destruction of historic property is getting increased scrutiny. There are many unanswered questions about what should happen next with the site."
City officials flagged Brokaw Hall for demolition in March, deeming the termite-infested, rotting structure a public safety hazard. The 1914 building had served as housing for the Del Monte Military Academy, a forestry camp building and a residential duplex.
