The California Public Utilities Commission has OK'd a $285,818 payout to Surfrider Foundation for its contributions to the Regional Desalination Project.

Public Trust Alliance, another nonprofit "intervenor" in the proceedings for the $400 million project, has put in a request for more than $185,000 in compensation.

But the third nonprofit intervenor, Citizens for Public Water, has not requested any payback (which will ultimately be charged to Cal Am ratepayers).
