American Idol contestant and local boy James Durbin is hours away from getting some of the best news of his life, or perhaps some of the worst. The Santa Cruz native, theater regular and vocalist is vying for a spot in the nationally televised singing competition’s top three.

As part of the shows yearly tradition, production crews will follow the remaining three contestants to their hometowns as they make appearances and do radio shows. Durbin, if selected to go forward, will be making himself heard on Monterey stations 104.3 The Hippo and 101.7 The Beach. After the interviews he will look to bask in a little local love, appearing before his adoring fans on the stations balcony.

Durbin is not only a favorite in the Monterey Bay community due to his local status, he has warmed hearts with his story of overcoming mild cases of Asperger’s and Tourette’s Syndromes while chasing his dream of being a performer.
