Former Penn State President Graham Spanier Resigns from NPS Board

As the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal continues to keep the nation aghast, former Penn State President Graham Spanier has resigned from the Naval Postgraduate School board of advisers just days after taking leave of Penn State.

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta was recommended by the secretary of the Navy to remove Spanier due to the ongoing sexual abuse scandal that resulted in the over-the-phone firing of legendary football coach Joe Paterno.

Spanier was supposedly up for renomination to the 18-member committee according to a high-level Navy official, but there is little chance of that standing now.

Both Spanier and Paterno aren’t being charged with any wrongdoing, but backlash over alleged inaction when confronted with Sandusky’s inappropriate behavior left Penn State trustees with few options but to cut ties.
