Carmelita Garcia is gunning for Sacramento.
The Pacific Grove mayor has started a Facebook page, "Carmelita Garcia for Assembly 2012," featuring photos of the up-and-coming politician gladhanding community leaders and smiling at ribbon-cuttings.
"I put it up just moments ago," Garcia says of the Facebook page. "I really thought about [running]. This is a huge decision."
Garcia is the second candidate to throw her hat in for the newly redistricted 29th Assembly District. It's the region currently represented by Assemblyman Bill Monning (D-Carmel), but he's running for the 17th Senate District in 2012.
In a district with no incumbent, the only other confirmed contender is Mark Stone, the California Coastal Commission and Santa Cruz County board chairman.
Under new state election laws, the top two vote-getters in the June 2012 primary will continue to the November 2012 general election. (Before, whoever garnered more than 50 percent of the primary vote was declared the winner.)
Garcia's term as P.G. mayor ends in November 2012.

Guess Garcia didn't look at the new districts and their numeric designation (http://cal-access.sos.ca.gov/Campaign...)
Should be the 29th assembly district.
Differences already between her and Stone ... Stone stated he accepts spending limits, Garcia says No to spending limits.
Ummm - what does that indicate?
