After weeks of buildup and logistical wrangling, the city of Marina's ready to double-double-down on its flashy plan to bring In-N-Out to The Dunes shopping center.
Marina Mayor Bruce Delgado is calling on Peninsula fans of the legendary fast food franchise to don red and yellow garb and assemble at noon on Sept. 24 in the field adjacent to Best Buy on General Stillwell Drive. The idea, Delgado says, is to assemble the burger-loving masses into a human replication of the In-N-Out logo, take aerial photos from a plane piloted by Marina resident Kim Cohan, and send the images of the 'flash mob' to In-N-Out's real estate honchos in the hopes that they'll give Marina what it's hungry for: a franchise of its very own.
Here's the lowdown, straight from the mayor himself:
Photo Location: In the Dunes development at the field adjacent to Best Buy (See attached aerial photo-map)
Parking: In Dunes parking lot near Best Buy, Kohls and that side of the Dunes shopping center. The exact location may change somewhat (see map). Please do not use parking closest to stores!
Signage: Signs will be placed on the fence directing folks on where to walk for the photo shoot, and at key locations on Imjin and 2nd Avenue
Photo theme: We will either ask everyone to wear red or yellow t shirts and arrange folks accordingly, or have placards or other type of designation, the details of this are being worked out. We also will have Police and Fire vehicles as available for the shoot.
Photo: We have a photographer and pilot arranged.
Media: Social media is being coordinated through the Facebook site and with CSUMB students through CSUMB staff. Press releases will be sent to print and TV media prior to the event.
Outreach: Everyone is encouraged to notify employees, students and customers of their organizations, particularly MPUSD, CSUMB, MPC, and other educational institutions.
