Sandy Koffman, who served as Pacific Grove's mayor from 1994-2002, passed away on Aug. 3 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Koffman's tenure, like those of most mayors, was controversial. She took criticism for the city's failing infrastructure, but many credit her with the launch of P.G.'s youth and senior centers and recall her smiling presence on the dais.
According to a city press release: "Sandy was a people person and an advocate for City employees. She knew every employee by their first name and always took the time to smile and thank them for their contributions. After leaving office, Sandy and her beloved husband Dan moved to Camano Island, Wash., where she worked as a real estate professional."
City flags will fly at half-staff, beginning today, for 48 hours and again for 24 hours on the day of her funeral, which hasn't been announced yet.
