Bekkum Family Farms of Westby, Wisc. has recalled bags of "Grumpy Goat Shreds" shredded cheese that may be tainted with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.
The cheese—a cow-goat mix—was packaged in eight-ounce bags dated 10-MAR-12 under the Nordic Creamery brand name. Stores in California, Wisconsin and Minnesota began selling the product in early November and officials are advising anyone that bought Grumpy Goat Shreds cheese to dispose of or return it for a full refund.
Listeriosis monocytogenes causes Listeriosis, a fairly serious illness especially when infecting the very young and very old or those with compromised immune systems. Though rare, the disease is known to cause miscarriages and stillbirths as well as other severe health complications.
