UPDATE: The American Red Cross Monterey Bay Area Chapter has announced it will be sending a second volunteer from Carmel Valley to Montana as a part of the effort to relieve those impacted by several wildfires burning across the western United States.
Michele Reiners will be volunteering as a client caseworker along with 37 other Central Coast volunteers currently serving from Florida to Colorado.
As floods and fires ravage both ends of the U.S., Carmel Valley Red Cross volunteer Beverly Parker is heading to Montana in an effort to help people affected by the catastrophic wildfires burning there.
Parker, along with 30 other Central Coast volunteers deployed by the Red Cross, will be working at a shelter to help house, feed and support hundreds of displaced residents in one of nine Red Cross shelters in Montana.
Charley Shimanski, senior vice president of Red Cross Disaster Services, says they are also sending volunteers to Colorado and Florida. “We are expanding our efforts to help the growing number of people affected by the fires in the west and are ready to distribute the tools and other resources people will need to begin the clean-up in Florida as the flood waters recede.”
If you would like to support Parker and the Red Cross donations can be made by visiting www.redcross.org or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. A one-time $10 donation can be made by texting REDCROSS to 90999.
