Loaves, Fishes and Computers and YWCA, two local nonprofits, have a one in five chance in winning a minivan through Toyota’s nationwide competition, but their success depends our your vote.
LFC and YWCA are two of 100 organizations selected from 4,000 applicants to participate in Toyota’s "100 Cars for Good" campaign. The contest works like this: Each day, the campaign’s Facebook page presents five non-profits for the public to vote on. The organization with the most votes by 9pm wins a minivan.
LFC is up for a vote on July 27, and YWCA can be voted for on July 28.
LFC, based in Seaside, is an organization that takes donated computers, restores and distributes them to low-income families and individuals in Monterey County. The organization has made significant progress on their mission, distributing 560 computers and preventing 8 tons of computer parts from entering the landfill. Currently they rely on personal cars to carry out their operation but are hoping to win the minivan to make distribution and collections easier.
YWCA is an international non-profit, with Monterey County being one of 300 associations nationwide. As an organization, they work towards eliminating racism and empowering women. The core of their efforts include providing safe houses and resources to women in crisis and victims of domestic abuse. The minivan would be used for transporting victims between safe houses and other agencies.
To vote for these organizations go to the “100 Cars for Good’ facebook page. Search YWCA or Loaves Fishes and Computers. Select the appropriate picture and then click “vote” followed by “confirm.”
