The twisty track at Laguna Seca hosted a lot of speed this weekend with Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner win his fourth race of the 2012 season ahead of Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo.
Stoner, the defending world champion, started the race from the front row, while Lorenzo started in pole position after smashing the track lap record on Saturday afternoon during qualifying practice with a one minute, 20.5 second-lap time in the final minute of the session. Stoner had held the previous lap record with a one minute, 20.7 second-lap, which he set in 2008.

Stoner’s teammate Dani Pedrosa started and finished the race in third.
Top American was Ducati’s Nicky Hayden who finished in sixth after Lorenzo’s teammate Ben Spies crashed out of fourth place near the end of the race.
In supporting races, history was also made when Josh Hayes won his eighth consecutive AMA Superbike race, making his the all-time consecutive race winner. He won by eight seconds.
Hayes in a two-time defending AMA Superbike champion on his way to another title after winning 11 races in 2012.
