16-Year-Old Boy Becomes Salinas' Sixth Homicide Victim of the Year

On Friday night, Salinas Police responded to reports of shots fired from a caller where officers found Ricardo Rojas, 16, with a gunshot wound to the head on the sidewalk under 100 block of N. Hebbron Avenue.

Rojas died a short time after when he was admitted to Natividad Medical Center.

In a nearby apartment complex, officers found a second victim—a 14-year-old male—who had been shot several times, but his injuries were non-life threatening.

The two victims had been walking together when they were confronted by two suspects; one wearing a black hoodie and black pants and the other wearing a grey hoodie and black pants. They were last seeing fleeing eastbound on Jefferson St.

This is the sixth homicide of the year and is being investigated as gang-related.
