Salinas’ Saltillo Tortilleria Robbed for the Second Time in a Month

The restaurant where one alleged robber was killed and another wounded by a Salinas man there to give a friend a ride home on Oct. 4 was robbed at gunpoint again Monday night.

Just after 8:30pm, two men in their mid-20s walked into Saltillo Tortilleria carrying handguns and demanded money from two employees, according to Officer Miguel Cabrera, spokesman for the Salinas Police Department.

According to witnesses, both suspects were fairly tall and thin. They fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

“Nothing that was done or said leads us to believe it was a piggyback on the first robbery,” Cabrera says. He also confirmed the employee the citizen shooter was waiting for on Oct. 4 was not working last night.

The Oct. 4 shooting has been turned over to the District Attorney’s office for investigation.

“Our part was completed,” says Cabrera. “We have had not had any further contact with the citizen.”

Cabrera says more officers have been patrolling the area of the restaurant near East Boronda and North Sanborn roads.
