Obama Signs Bill Creating Pinnacles National Park

President Obama today signed a bill to upgrade Pinnacles National Monument to Pinnacles National Park, making it the 59th in the United States.

The 26,000-acre Pinnacles, near the city of Soledad in eastern Monterey County, is known for its stunning volcanic spires, California condor habitat and talus caves.

In a press release, The Wilderness Society credits Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Rep. Sam Farr (D-Carmel) "for their years of dedicated efforts to introduce legislation and build support for it." Farr introduced The Pinnacles National Park Act, HR 3641, in 2011, and Boxer introduced the companion bill in the Senate.

WOW! Together with the Fort Ord BLM land becoming a national monument last year, life is getting better and better in Monterey County. Now all we need is a horse racing track built amongst the pristine oaks of Parker Flats.
