Knives May Be New "Weapon of Choice" in Marina, Police Say

A teenage boy in Marina was taken to the hospital Sunday evening after suffering multiple stab wounds, according to Marina police.

The teenager told police he was stabbed by several men somewhere in Marina. Police, who arrived at 6:30pm Sunday, were trying to determine the location of the stabbing yesterday.

As of yesterday the teen was in stable condition, says Commander Bob Nolan of the Marina Police Department.

One suspect, 19-year-old Abraham Vega, was arrested Sunday, Nolan says. Police don’t believe the incident was gang related, he says.

The incident was the second stabbing in two weeks. On Feb. 24, in what police think was a gang-related crime, a teenage boy was also stabbed, Nolan says. The teen has been released from the hospital.

“It’s been a long time since we had a stabbing in Marina and the last two incidents have been stabbings involving youths,” says Nolan. “That might be the weapon of choice now.”
