Prior to his appearances with the upcoming Days and Nights Festival on the Monterey Peninsula, composer Philip Glass granted me an exclusive photo session to shoot him at Brazil Ranch in Big Sur.

After I mentioned enjoying his interview on National Public Radio's This American Life (hosted by his cousin Ira Glass), Philip told me how Ira (younger in age) would ask about extended members of the Glass family. Philip talked (and laughed) when mentioning family that no one much liked, but Philip thought were good people nonetheless.

"Every family has them," he says.

Later, we discussed Paul Simon's Graceland record and discussed the upcoming Monterey Jazz Festival and Glass' performance at the Sunset Center with Foday Musa Suso.

Before leaving, we walked down a trail that overlooks the famous Bixby Bridge with the ocean in the background.
